home i’ll never be

Can’t even remember what my last post was about, so i should have plenty to talk about…. I’ve had a pretty good couple of weeks. I went to see The Low Anthem in Manchester last week and it was probably one of the best gigs i’ve been to, they had 2 supports brownbird and david ford who were also very good and i  can’t believe it was only £11 for the ticket. I spent the next couple of days in Leeds with Byron where i also caught up with sarah and tom, vicky, ruth, cotterill, swansea and goh (don’t think i left anyone out). They were raising money for their trip to mongolia, which you can sponsor if you like or just get down to ambleside on march 13th! I got roped into doing a performance with the drag artist… i think the photos will be on facebook soon! Anyway after this performance me and byron went to the Faversham nightclub in Leeds which was incredible, so many students!!

I’ve just booked my hotel in London for when Carlisle play in the Johnstones Paint Trophy Final, hopefully they don’t play as poorly as last night against Huddersfield although i think the goal that was disallowed last night was harsh, however i haven’t seen a replay yet. i’ll be in london between 26-28th march anyway!

I <3 Leeds

Went down to Leeds on monday byron went on the train due to his allergy of motorways. I had a fantastic 12 hour sleep on monday night after watching cruel intentions and eating some bbq chicken pizza. So, i got up at 3pm on tuesday afternoon, the same time as Byron although he said he had been up till 8.30 in the morning (?!) Anyway we went for a cruise to pick up byrons money from the post office then to headingly for a bit of shaky jakes, kfc and odd bins where i got the wine seller to recommend me a good bottle of twist top rose because i didn’t have a corkscrew. classy!

On the nighttime byron, arwell, bonse and i went to Beckett’s bank then byron and i went to slamdunk at the cockpit. It was a bit of let down to be honest because it wasn’t very busy and one of the rooms was closed so there was no where to chillout but i’ll hopefully get back down to hit basement or check out hi fi club soon.

On the way back from Leeds i had a very successful trip to the trafford centre where i bought my new tv, a 32 inch toshiba regza 1080p full hd 100hz tv with 5 year guarantee for only £399. Amazing!

Steve O’s Day off

I did a lot of things with my day off yesterday….. I had a very successful and slightly surprising meeting with the council yesterday where they gave me a casual job which i wasn’t really expecting because i had been doing the work voluntarily and thought they might just take advantage of that, especially when i was told that i’d start getting paid after a year when i started and it’s only been about a month.

Byron and I also watched England hold on for a draw against South Africa in the cricket which was amazing… well done onions, swanny, bell and colly!! Then at 7.30pm me, byron, graemo and caitlin played tennis in bitts park aerodome when the temperature was about -10c and the light was pretty bad because of the snow on the roof. not something i’ll be repeating too soon! I did enjoy the post match drink (appletiser- i’m an athlete!) in the turf with caitlin’s mates though. hopefully to be repeated soon haha

peace out

ps if i could see about 10 people live who are no longer with us this guy would probably be one!! i heard a story once that otis redding used to go to a karaoke style event near where he lived every week and he’d go onstage every week and pull out all the stops and win the main prize EVERY week and still go the next week haha LEGEND

she drove me to daytime television

I’m going to get back to doing this every couple of days, just lost a bit of motivation recently. I had a pretty good new years… went to Circle, Andalusian, solo and unit in Carlisle with Graemo and Lawson with hibbs joining us just before midnight. In Circle bar Lawson was saying he was going to see the Stereophonics again in March and brought up the last time we went to see them in December 2007. The gig was pretty immense as you’d expect from the phonics, i remember being pretty tipsy! After the gig Lawson, Scott, Paul? and I (can’t really remember who was there which i think is a good marker) went to O’ Neils bar opposite central station, which is one of my favourites and i went up to this lass and asked where we should go cause we’re from Carlisle and don’t know where to head to? (which was a lie but hey) she ended up taking me to Revolution, Digital then back to hers on the old durham road in gateshead where she put Topgun on and started to cry which was very strange haha. Anyway the next morning i got up and walked all the way through Gateshead in the freezing cold over the millennium bridge, popped in to get my stuff from Lawson’s hotel and went to work.

ps Byron and I went for a drink on Sunday night down at Fats but I said that i’d like to check out and see if Alcoves was open cause i’ve never been. So we were driving down Fisher Street and it was really dark, so i was going really slow next to the Alcoves lane where all we could see was 2 lads about 16 doing up there pants after a piss and there other 2 mates were on the side of the road watching us watching them. we just started laughing but they probably thought we were gay pervert curbcrawlers haha

black eye friday/CSI Ambleside

I had an interesting end to the night on Friday, some lad came up to me in Concrete with a ladies furry scarf and gave it to me claiming it was a mink, so i wore it anyway (even though it didn’t really compliment my gold jacket) needless to say the combination got plenty of attention in pizza base particularly from a couple of married women who i had a chat with. Basically they asked me why i was wearing a gold shiny jacket haha and i said because it’s attractive. One of them said it wasn’t , another regular response, but i told she was wrong because she wouldn’t be talking to me if i didn’t have it on, so it is attractive whether she likes it or not then i tried to offload my mink scarf onto her but she wouldn’t have it because it was really a fake fur scarf from H&M and apparently she won’t wear anything from H&M. So i got my small ham and mushroom pizza and left after winding her up about being to old for concrete, she was loving it though and got home in a reasonable condition on black eye friday.

I remember talking to my mate Burny about a cd he had bought called CSI Ambleside which is probably the best title ever for a CD and very funny for anyone who has actually lived there because as one of my friends said once you can’t have a fart in ambleside without someone knowing about it, so you definetly don’t need CSI although i’d watch it

Trip to Aside, seen the legend Richard Joynson and found some places for the Hoff to live

I went down to Ambleside on Tuesday with Harold to look for somewhere for the Hoffman to live when he comes over and had a really good day! realised how much i miss the chilled out lifestyle of Aside and it got me thinking about all the places i’d lived in down there never mind all the places i’d slept in!!

First year i lived in the mighty Helvellyn with all the outdoor studs. I was telling some teaching students the other day about how all the students used to be segregated into different halls according their course until our year and possibly the year after with Sam Wally and his crew when they decided to mix the students to prevent the rivalry developing, mainly between helvellyn and fairfield.

Second year i lived in Uldale with Bob, Joe and Ian which was quite a mix of personalities haha but i enjoyed it and got along with all of them. i still park outside of there when i go down because it’s free parking! I had a look in the other day and it was all being redecorated, they’d knocked down the wall to the kitchen, probably taken out the slot machine you had to use to have the electricity on too lol!!

Between 2nd and 3rd year i lived with Toddy for a couple of weeks, possibly illegally i don’t think the landlord knew about me squating, and then moved to the flats above kd sports/adventure peaks which was an interesting place to live! there was 3 flats one on each floor, i had the bottom one above the shop that had big bay window looking over the town centre and i used to dance to it with a bit of futureheads on or something/ get changed haha. spent a lot of time with Jacko that summer watching the Ashes/ going to sporties

Then in 3rd year i moved to the Ambleside ghetto of millans park just off Compton/ compston street ambleside and lived with Jacques, Bob, Geordie, Liz and Terrie…….which again was a big mix of personalities but i enjoyed it again and remember watching a lot of topgear, spooks and rugby with bob and jacques. It was also the host to the first few games of the 2006 world cup when me and byron cruised down and watched the tv in the front garden with the sun beaming down. good times

must be santa… best xmas song for ages?!

I started reading down under by bill bryson today, loving it so far- really funny anecdotes. Hopefully around this time next year i’ll get the chance to head to Australia myself, as long as i don’t meet the top ten deadliest snakes in the world and five of the top ten deadliest creatures in the world that live in australia.

I remember thinking about things that people had said that changed me, one time i did a mock exam at school and got 50% and i asked the teacher something like “is that any good?” thinking he would say it’d probably be worth a C grade or something but he just said “well you know half of what you should know” which was a very good response i thought because let’s face it there’s no good reason for not knowing everything about what you’re studying other than laziness really.

todays track of the day is surprisingly amazing from the genius that is bob dylan

and another piece of dylan for anyone not familiar with his greatness

“going back to town in a bit mate to sort some business out”

I felt terrible at the weekend, i went out for a bit on saturday night to watch Amir Khan destroy Salita but had to drive home pretty early because my ear was hurting so much from my sore throat then i went to bed and was coughing all night and tempted just to get up and go to hospital. On Sunday i went uptown shopping, with mum and dad, and had a badhead and felt like i was gonna collapse when i walked upstairs.

I think the curry i had at Nowab must have sorted me out though!! Feel a lot better today! I bought a film yesterday by Shane Meadows, who i keep hearing lots of things about, called dead man’s shoes. It was incredible, really good story line and excellent acting!

This is a song from the end of the film!

and trailer!!!

steve o loves karen o

feeling pretty rubbish today due to cold and sore throat. Graemo and I went to see Errol Alkan dj in concrete last week for the uber party. The highlight for me was when he dropped A Trak’s remix of ‘heads will roll’ by the yeah yeah yeahs which is todays track of the day! we had a good gym session on monday too in the trinity gym, i was loving the gym ball press ups. Hopefully if i feel better tonight we’ll hit it up again after he’s been for a meal with his ladyfriend.

Anyway gonna try and make myself feel better with a shower and porridge and oranges and stuff, maybe a bit of lemsip

December tomorrow. WOOP!

“There’s no such thing as ‘bad luck’ just bad decisions and bad technique”…. sometimes people say things and it changes you, this is one of the latest one’s i’ve heard that has made sense to me. The person who was assessing the course for my football coaching qualification said it because a lot of the lads/coaches were saying unlucky when something went wrong, which you shouldn’t do because there’s obviously a coaching point to be made.

Another time i remember that changed me was probably about 10+ years ago when my dad brought home some of the plans for the extension to the Tullie house museum.. i was young and thought they should go for the building that they have now because it fitted in with what was already there, but might dad said they should go for the glass pyramid idea because it would stand out and be an icon for people to visit. he also said they should lower the road and make a tunnel for it, so you could walk straight over to the castle (which is one of the most important castle’s in the world), another very good idea. Ever since then i’ve wanted to stand out in some way, long before i’d heard of ‘peacocking’ haha.

I bought a couple of tickets to go and see these guys the other day! can’t wait! i prefer the second song on this video
